ScreenWorks continues in March with further fantastic (and free!) work experience opportunities for students to learn about careers in the screen industries.
Our next programmes will be Producing, with filmmaker Margaret McGoldrick, Animation For Film with award winning director Kris Kelly, The Camera Department with Acorn Film & TV and Production Accountancy with leading financial controller Seamus Devine. Due to the strong potential for The Camera Department and Production Accountancy programmes to lead directly to paid roles in the summer, all applicants for those two programmes must be aged 18 by 30th June 2023.

1) SCREENWORKS – PRODUCING WITH MARGARET MCGOLDRICK
- Placement Details: ScreenWorks: Producing (with Margaret McGoldrick)

- What is a producer? Breaking down the various roles
- Hierarchy of production. How does a producer work with different parts of a production?
- Breaking down a script for creating a budget

2) SCREENWORKS - ANIMATION FOR FILM WITH KRIS KELLY
- Placement Details: ScreenWorks: Animation for Film (with Kris Kelly)
- Date: 21 - 24 March
- Location: Belfast
- Ages: 14-19
This ScreenWorks programme includes;
- Introduction to software After Effects and Photoshop
- Storytelling for animation
- Explaining the production workflow
- Creating an animated short to a brief set by Kris
3) SCREENWORKS - THE CAMERA DEPARTMENT WITH ACORN FILM & TV
- Placement Details: ScreenWorks: The Camera Department (with Acorn FIlm & TV)
- Date: 29th - 31st March
- Location: Belfast
- Ages: 18-19 (or 18 by 30th June 2023)
This ScreenWorks programme includes;
- Exploring the various roles that exist in the camera department, including D.I.T. and Video Playback
- Set etiquette and health and safety
- How to use the camera (including shutter speed, codecs and white balance)
- How to prepare and care for a camera kit
- Audio and microphones
- Lighting basics
4) SCREENWORKS - PRODUCTION ACCOUNTANCY WITH SEAMUS DEVINE
- Placement Details: ScreenWorks: Production Accountancy (with Seamus Devine)
- Date: 29th - 31st March
- Location: Belfast
- Ages: 18-19 (or 18 by 30th June 2023)
This ScreenWorks programme includes;
- The importance of Accounting within the TV & film industry
- The role of the accounting department
- Structure of the accounting department
- Skillset required to become a Production Accountant
- Career opportunities that the creative industries will offer
- Potential for one participant to work this summer as a Accounts Trainee on a large-scale feature – details below!
ScreenWorks has an opportunity for a promising young person to work on a large-scale feature film as a trainee in the accounts department.
ScreenWorks, in partnership with Seamus Devine, Production Accountant, will deliver a 3-day "Intro to Production Accountancy" programme for 15 young people aged 18-19. At least one of these young people will be selected to work as a trainee on this large-scale feature film with the trainee position starting in July 2023 and running until at least November 2023.
Previous experience is not required, however a keen interest in accounts and the Film and TV Industry is desirable. The successful candidate(s) should be self-motivated with a willingness to learn along with the ability to work under pressure.
To apply for this ScreenWorks programme, you must be aged 18-19 (or be 18 by 30/06/23) and currently studying a Maths and/or Finance subject.
